Thank you for choosing Rooster.

How can we help?

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Rooster Asset Tracking System know when equipment is being used?

Rooster Hubs and Activity Trackers can detect tilt and movement. The timing and duration of movement is recorded by the device, then transmitted instantaneously to the Cloud. Through the Rooster app, you can easily see how often, and on what jobsite, every piece of equipment is being used.

How many Hubs do I need?

At least one Rooster Hub is required on each site where Activity Trackers will be used. We recommend installing Hubs on all powered equipment to provide the most accurate location reporting. These devices not only serve as a connectivity gateway for Activity Trackers, but Rooster Hubs also read J1939 telematics data through plug-n-play cables.

How long does the Activity Tracker's battery last?

Rooster Trackers contain the world’s largest coin cell battery, providing up to a 5-year battery life. As with all batteries, degradation occurs at different rates based on environmental conditions.

Can I see the exact location of Activity Trackers?

To allow maximum battery life, Activity Trackers do not include onboard GPS. Instead, Activity Trackers utilize the Rooster Hub’s GPS for location reporting. The more Hubs found on the jobsite, the more precise the Activity Tracker location will be.

Can the Rooster Asset Tracking System help mitigate theft of my equipment?

Yes, and no. While Rooster was not designed as a theft deterrent system, it can help with lost, borrowed, hoarded, or stolen items. Please keep in mind that a highly skilled thief is likely to either remove or disable a tracking system, so 100% recovery is not realistic for any system. Rooster gives users an option to set up Unscheduled Activity Notifiers which automatically distribute alerts anytime an asset is active outside of preselected work hours (evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.)

How many Activity Trackers can a Hub handle?

We recommend a ratio of one Rooster Hub per 10 Activity Trackers. While a single Rooster Hub can process information from up to 100 Rooster Trackers at once, the quality of the data you receive from the Activity Trackers improves with each Rooster Hub that is added to a job site or yard.

How long does it take for me to see the activity on my equipment?

Activity Trackers record every minute of activity and retain that data for up to 30 days. Activity Trackers transmit their data through a patented connectivity protocol to the nearest active Rooster Hub as long as it’s within range (up to ½ mile). From there, the Rooster Hub transmits data every 8 minutes to the Cloud, as long as it has a solid GPS and LTE signal. To prevent excessive battery usage, the Rooster Tracker sleeps during periods of inactivity.

What is LoRa and why is it better than Bluetooth for this application?

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that operates in the 2.40 to 2.48 GHz radio frequency bands. The LoRa protocol (derived from “Long Range”) is a long-range wireless technology that operates in sub-gigahertz radio frequency bands. Rooster chose LoRa to enable important IoT parts of our system: Lower radio frequencies tend to have more penetrating power which is why LoRa is much better at transmitting within the world of construction job sites where lots of obstacles are present.

Is it easy to install a Hub and Activity Tracker?

Installation of Rooster Trackers is simple and quick. Rooster Hub installation is also easy, but given that these devices will mount in vehicles, it’s best to be done by a mechanic or a Rooster field technician.

Will the Rooster Asset Tracking System work in countries other than USA?

Today, Rooster is certified in the U.S. and Canada.  Mexico, Europe, and Australia are pending, with additional countries on our roadmap.  Have a specific need? Let us know.
